A small jar with many uses
Making your own spice blend means you can keep the flavor warm and balanced—not too heavy on any one spice.
Use it in pumpkin recipes, of course, but also try it in oatmeal, coffee, chai, French toast, roasted squash, or sweet potatoes.
What you'll need
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1½ teaspoons ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
Step by step
Instructions
- Measure all of the spices into a small bowl.
- Whisk until the color and texture are even, breaking up any small lumps.
- Transfer to a clean, dry jar with a tight-fitting lid.
- Label and store in a cool, dark pantry. For the brightest flavor, use within about 6 months.

Dianne's kitchen tip
Make the blend your own.
If you love ginger, add another teaspoon. If cloves feel strong to you, reduce them slightly.
Always use a dry measuring spoon so moisture does not enter the jar.
